GATHER CLIENT NEEDS WITH COMPREHENSIVE APPLICATION

Our application form is designed to give us all the critical insight we need to kick off our puppy matchmaking process. We ask for a great amount of detail in our questions, which include:

  • Do you agree with our care practices and values?
  • Tell us about your home and your neighborhood. What is it like where you live?
  • Have you ever returned a dog to a breeder or rescue?

ANSWER CLIENT QUESTIONS & PROVIDE INFORMATION

Our puppy matchmaking process is a unique methodology for pairing one our puppies with an appropriate client. We have several core values that guide our care best practices, and we encourage you to follow our recommendations for increased longevity and health for your pup. If you have questions about our values or how to continue using these practices, our team is happy to answer them.

APPROVE CLIENT APPLICATION & REQUEST DEPOSIT

Whether you decide to get a puppy sooner or later, our next step in our process is to secure a deposit to hold a placement on a litter. We offer the option to easily pay the deposit online, and we request different amounts based on which puppy you’re getting and whether or not they will be trained. The deposit helps cover care costs between the day you submit your deposit and puppy pickup day, which is when the balance is due in full.

UTILIZE OUR ASSESSMENTS TO MAKE A PROPOSAL

Once we determine that our potential client is aligned with our care best practices and we understand the environment and lifestyle the pup will enjoy while in your guardianship, we’ll closely examine our available puppies to determine if there are any matches with the client.

We look at the following details:

  • Training interest to secure a placement in our program
  • Coat color, gender, age and go-home date requirements for your puppy
  • Physical location of your home and neighborhood (urban, rural) as well as who lives there with you
  • Features of your home conducive to a successful puppy lifestyle (fenced-in yard, lawn space, access to water)
  • Activity level requirements for exercise, play, and rest
  • Special requests, such as requesting a hunting or birding dog, gentle giant, or specific body size (blocky, smaller)

8 WEEK PUPPY MILESTONES

Birthday

CONFIRMING DOG PREGNANCY

The gestation period for our dogs is around 60 days, and we send the pups home as soon as they turn 8 weeks old unless they go into our training program – so from the day of conception, it takes 4 months for a pup to be old enough to go home with a new family.

3 Weeks OLD

SHARING THE LITTER WITH CLIENTS

When our pups turn 3 weeks old, we will start to share their availability with clients. We wait until the puppies are healthy and thriving before we share the news of a new birth announcement. We’ll ask you if you want to hold a placement on a specific litter, which means we will be proposing a specific puppy at the 5-6 week mark.

5 WEEKS OLD

MOVING PUPS INTO THE DORMITORY

Some of our pups are born to dames that live with us on-site at On The Bluff, while some dames care for their puppies off-site because they live with a co-owner family. With a co-owned dame, we have the family that owns the breeding dog take care of the puppies until they turn around 5 weeks old and are ready to move to a puppy dormitory.

6 WEEKS OLD

PROPOSING SPECIFIC PUP TO CLIENT

When the pups turn around 5-6 weeks old, we have a professional photographer come in to share photos of the pups to share announcements with specific pups with clients. We’ll tell you about your pup and why we think they’d be a great fit for you. You have the opportunity to accept or decline any proposal for any reason.

8 WEEKS OLD

SCHEDULING PUPPY PICKUP DAY

We will be in touch with you to set up a specific date and time for you to come meet your puppy and pick him or her up. Plan on 30-60 minutes of time with us as we go over your paperwork and answer any questions you have about our values or how to feed your puppy our raw diet. We’ll walk through everything with you.
